Meet Dr. Sanders
Kathy S. Sanders, DMD, AACD
One of only six dentists in the state of Tennessee to earn accreditation (granted in 2006) with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) and one of only 250 worldwide, Kathy S. Sanders, DMD, AAACD, is the official dentist of the Tennessee USA Pageant System. The designer of award-winning smiles, Dr. Sanders is an award winner herself, garnering silver and bronze awards in the AACD's internationally-acclaimed Annual Smile Gallery Competition of the leading cosmetic dentists.
Her dedication to the continual refinement of her cosmetic dentistry skills have provided her with extensive continuing education and advanced practicum experience by some of the world's most-talented cosmetic dentists (1998 PAC-Live graduate, Anterior Aesthetics Program, University of Pacific, San Francisco, Calif.; hands-on training with Dr. Frank Spear, The Seattle Institute for Advanced Dental Education, Facially Generated Treatment Planning- February 2004, Occlusion in Clinical Practice-August 2004, Advanced Occlusion in Clinical Practice-Oct. 2005; Peer Practicum Implant Studies, Implant Dentistry; 2009 Seattle Institute for Advanced Dental Education with Dr. Frank Spear; 2011 Carlsbad, CA Zimmer Institute).
Due to Dr. Sanders’ continuing education fervor, twice, she has been recognized by the Tennessee Dental Association ACE Certificate of Recognition program for completing more than 80 hours of continuing education in a two year period (2007-2008; 2009-2010).
Dr. Sanders is a native of Savannah, Georgia, and a graduate of Georgia Southern University, Statesboro. She received her doctorate of dental medicine from the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta.
Practicing in the Tri-Cities since 1991, Dr. Sanders is a member of the AACD, the Tennessee Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, and the American Dental Association (Tennessee Dental Society, First District Dental Society).
She is also a recipient of the Business Journal's "Forty under 40" recognition.
Working with a local shelter for domestic violence victims, Dr. Sanders participates with the Tennessee Chapter of the AACD in the "Give Back a Smile Program"-- a coordinated effort designed to provide cosmetic dental care to victims of domestic violence. She and her husband, Brian, most enjoy spending time together with their two children, Erika and Michael.
I am truly blessed to be a dentist, and am inspired daily to provide my patients with the healthy, beautiful smiles they deserve. I love that my patients are also my neighbors and friends, and I always provide the highest quality services possible for them. I care about each person who comes to see me, and am humbled by the fact that they put so much trust in me. I want to ensure that they maintain their oral health for a lifetime!
Education
Before I became a dentist, I attended Georgia Southern University, where I attained my Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. I then earned my DMD from the Medical College of Georgia. Since graduation, I have also earned the honor of being an Accredited Member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, as well as a graduate of the Seattle Institute for Advanced Dental Studies.
Continuing Education
I love to learn, and I am always working hard to make sure our patients receive the most advanced dental care available. I always exceed the number of continuing education hours required by the state of Tennessee because I enjoy learning about dentistry and only want the best for my patients. My continuing studies are attained through local, national and international conferences featuring the best lecturers. My continuing education pursuits give me the opportunity to continually research and learn from the best materials, techniques and technologies available to advance the level of dentistry that my patients need and deserve.
Professional Commitment
Being a dentist is a wonderful opportunity for me to help our community. I love helping people get beautiful new smiles, and seeing the powerful transformation that a new smile makes in someone’s life! Many patients experience greater self-esteem after a dental treatment, and watching someone show off their new smiles always makes my day. I also love the attention to detail that my job requires, and enjoy using my technical skills to make people healthier and happier.
My team helps me provide the quality of services we’re known for. They have been in our practice for many years and truly care about our patients. I have a very committed team that loves to grow and learn and smile! We love what we do and that really shows in our relationships with one another and our patients.
Family and Community
I am originally from Savannah, Georgia, and have lived in Kingsport for nearly 20 years. My husband, Brian, is a chemical engineer at Eastman Chemical Company. We have two wonderful children, Erika and Michael. I love being a mom and supporting my kids’ various musical interests. I also enjoy reading, snorkeling or traveling in my spare time.
I am also active in our community and have been a member of the Colonial Heights Baptist Church since 1991. I participate in the annual American Cancer Society Gala event, and am a supporter of the AACD Give Back a Smile program, local sports teams, and Young Life.
